Department of Instrumentation and Control Systems:
What is instrumentation and What are its types?
The simple definition of instrumentation is as follows:
Instrumentation refers to all measuring equipment and instruments that are
responsible for measuring, displaying, controlling, transmitting, or recording
physical units and parameters in the automation process.
Instrumentation, as its name suggests, is used to measure physical quantities
with appropriate accuracy to control the process and send appropriate
commands in industrial systems. Important quantities such as pressure,
Temperature,Flow,Distance,Time,Position,Etc. It is measured by
instrumentation.
Types of instrumentation and their categories:
Due to the nature of accurate measurement, instrumentation plays the most
important role in the measurement part of a control system. For this reason,
all types of instrumentation are categorized according to their function in the
measurement section. In this regard, instrumentation equipment can be
divided into several general sections, which are:
1. Instrumentation
- a. Pressure and differential pressure measuring equipment
- - Types of pressure and differential pressure gauges
- - Types of pressure and differential pressure transmitters
- - Types of pressure switches
- - Types of accessories related to pressure measurement
- b. Pressure and differential pressure measuring equipment
- - Types of level gauges
- - Types of Level Transmitters
- - Types of Level Switch Systems Based on Tank Gauging
- c. Flow measurement equipment
- - Types of rotameters
- - Types of flow transmitters
- - Flow metering based systems
- d. Temperature measuring equipment
- - Types of temperature gauges
- - Types of temperature transmitters
- - Types of temperature switches
- - Types of accessories related to temperature measurement
- e. Control valves
- - On/off valves
